The U.S. Department of Education announced that they will hold a second round of public input meetings to listen to and learn from assessment experts and practitioners about how ED can improve education assessments.

So far, ED has held seven meetings located in Boston, Atlanta, and Denver. Thirty-seven states joined department leadership and nearly 700 members of the public to hear from assessment experts in general assessment, high school assessment, the role of technology in assessment, assessing students with disabilities, and assessing English language learners. and

Three more meetings will be held in January 2010 in the Washington D.C. area. The purpose of these meetings is to first gather specific information regarding the development of a Race to the Top Assessment Competition; and second to facilitate states, that will be the competition applicants. Lastly, the meetings are being held to receive input from public and ED would like the public to participate and learn from these meetings.
